Grants and Scholarships

The Brazos Extension Horse Committee offers limited grants and scholarships to local equine programs and youth as funds allow.

2024 Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Kylan Canon for receiving the 2024 Brazos Extension Horse Committee Scholarship. Kylan, the daughter of Steve and Maleigh Canon, is currently a Freshman at Texas A&M University majoring in Animal Science. Her experiences in the livestock community include: starting foals and yearlings on the family ranch; competing in local, 4-H, and Stock Horse of Texas competitions, as well as Equine Public Speaking. Kylan served as a State and National 4-H Equine Ambassador from 2021-24. She has held many leadership roles in both livestock and equine 4-H Clubs and was awarded the American Youth Horse Council Youth Leader of the Year in 2023. She hosts and produces “The Cattle Call”, a podcast to educate and encourage youth to enter the agriculture industry.

Scholarships

Graduating seniors or college/trade school students can apply for a scholarship from the BEHC. Applicants must live in Brazos or an immediate surrounding County, and demonstrate involvement with horses or the equine industry. Scholarship amount is determined by the annual committee budget and the number of qualified applicants.

Grants

Local equine related non-profit organizations may submit a grant request to help pay for events, teams, or expenses. Recipients should be able to demonstrate how the funding will serve the mission of the Brazos Extension Horse Committee. Applicants may be asked to attend a meeting in order to advocate on behalf of their request and answer questions by the committee.
